Summer School
Between September 5-9, 2022, the University of Craiova organized a summer school within the Erasmus project "Application of advanced technologies in teaching and research, in the field of air pollution".
A number of 21 students from Turkey, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania will participate in an intensive training, learning how to make a microparticle sensor using microcontrollers. This type of sensor is used for air quality monitoring.
A first objective of the students' summer school is to visit the Oltenia Regional Meteorological Center to observe how the sensors of the National Meteorological Agency work and are connected. Students will be able to see the models used in the center for weather forecasting.
Another objective that will be visited during the program is the Incesa research hub, the Romanian applied research infrastructure.
Students will learn to make a sensor, program it and connect it to an international network. They will look at how sensor data is acquired, stored and processed, discuss IoT (Internet of Things), Machine Learning algorithms and artificial intelligence.
During this summer school, students will also learn interesting information about Romanian culture.
The sensors made in Craiova will be installed in Turkey, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania, becoming part of an independent international network. Students will participate in a competition with prizes generically titled, "Sensor of the future, 2050".
The founder of a Romanian start-up (Magnasci SRL), Mr. Radu Moțișan, will share with the students his entrepreneurial experience in the field of sensor production, bringing added value to the development of students' STEM skills.
Other experts from economics, climate change and banking have been invited to talk to the students about their professional experience working with climate databases, developing innovation-focused companies and virtual currencies.
